Know more about Live-in care

Live-in care is temporary care individuals when their normal carers are not available. Live-in care, or carers respite, is typically used as part of recovery after an accident, illness or surgery when regular carers need a break, or additional specialized support is required.

What is Live-in Care?

Live-in care means having a fully trained care worker living with you in your own home. Your live-in care worker will support you with your specific needs to keep you comfortable and independent at home. Our live-in care workers and companions help with:

Whether it’s helping with personal care, keeping on top of the chores or moving around the house, many of our care workers become a rock to their clients, enabling them to live the way they want every day.

How Live-in care works?

24-hour care, or live-in care, is support that covers you morning, evening and night so that you are never left without the assistance you need. With 24-hour care, you have the constant reassurance that there is always someone there to provide you with consistent and professional care to the highest standards.

Whether you need assistance with personal care in the morning or if you need support to access the toilet safely in the middle of the night, your dedicated team of carers will be there whenever you need them.

Live-in care is seen as a direct alternative to a care home or supported living arrangement, as it enables you to receive 24-hour care on your terms, and in the comfort and familiarity of your own home.

Round-the-clock care consists of any activity that you need support with at home to live a happy and healthy life. Our carers can support you with:

  • Staying in your own home in the environment you love the most
  • Avoiding change – daily life can stay much the same with that extra support
  • Flexible care built around you – your carer helps as much or little as you like
  • Keeping the same routines, hobbies and interests
  • Companionship, whether it’s sharing meals, watching TV or enjoying days out
  • Family and friends can still come and go as normal
  • Emotional support – many carers become more like friends to our customers

How is Live-in care different?

Moving to a new home is a stress for anyone, even at the best of times. Couple that with moving into residential care – with set routines, set meals and set visiting times– and it can become a real strain and disruption to a person’s life.

Having a Live In care worker means you can keep the same daily routines, and friends and family can continue to visit as they normally do. With a spare room in your home, your live-in Care Worker will be there to support you each day, as muchor as little as you like and according to what matters to you most.

Not all home care providers offer a regulated service. In fact, many live-in care agencies simply introduce you to a care worker, meaning that you’ll need to manage their pay, arrange cover for their breaks, holidays or if they’re ill, and handle any appraisals or concerns yourself. With Angelus Homecare, we manage all of this –and more – for you. This includes regular reviews of your support plan, care worker supervisions and extra training as is needed.

Who Can benefit from Live-in care?

Live-in care is available for anyone of all ages, from the age of 18 and up. A residential care home is not the only option. With private care, you can continue to live-in the place you know and love

Hospital discharge

Sometimes getting the all-clear for a hospital discharge can rely on whether the right level of care is available at home. It often places a great amount of pressure on families in juggling care needs with other commitments.

Our emergency care means we can often respond within 24 hours if you or your loved one is being discharged from hospital. After contacting us, your local care specialist will liaise with the hospital discharge team and other professionals involved on your behalf to arrange a safe return home.

With the help of your chosen live-in care worker, you or your loved one can have a smooth transition. He or she is there to support with the day-to-day tasks: making meals, running errands and keeping the house clean and tidy, right through to personal care and assisting with physiotherapy exercises.

We work alongside your district nurse, occupational therapist and physiotherapist, offering essential support when health can be at its most fragile, building confidence and strength each day. Our care workers can also give support including bladder management, convene and PEG, to name a few.

Call us today and speak to us about how we can react quickly to a forthcoming hospital discharge. We’re here seven days a week to take your call..

When you’re at the point of receiving a number of care visits each day, as well as having night care, the costs can soon become significant and unmanageable.

For a similar price, a dedicated live-in care worker provides the continuity that a team of care workers is unable to. One person can absorb all the routine tasks and have the time to concentrate on providing so much more, such as being a companion and sharing hobbies and interests.

With a live-in care worker, you have a continuous care service and complete peace of mind that you or your loved one has the right support, no matter what the time of day.

Call us today to speak to one of our care specialists about how live-in care could work for you.

For an elderly relative or friend, a carer can become a huge source of support, especially for someone who is frail or regularly experiencing falls.

More than just home help, a Live In care worker offers you and your family extra reassurance that someone is there to cook regular meals, administer medication, on-hand in an emergency and also to offer ongoing companionship.

If your loved one is living with dementia, the daily support of a familiar face is crucial in easing anxiety and any challenging behaviors. Your dedicated care worker will work for weeks at a time before taking time off, with a regular relief care worker who you will get to know too.

With an extensive team of dementia specialists, we can also offer tips for managing various behaviors associated with dementia. Our focus is on understanding the causes and adjusting support, whether it’s using visual prompts for people and rooms, specific tips for mealtimes and rewarding activities such as creating a life story book. And as a member of the Dementia Action Alliance, we’re always looking to provide the best support we can for those with different types of dementia.

Our care worker have specialisms with many different conditions, including Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, support after a stroke, multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease, diabetes, Huntington’s disease, and even depression or anxiety.

Whatever your condition, we will create a package of care that helps you to live your life in the way you want.q

Trained palliative care workers are also available to support someone at the end of their life. They each provide specialist support to help with the day to day things and enable you or your loved one to pass peacefully at home.

You may need some temporary care after an accident or planned operation, such as after a knee or hip operation. Even if it’s just for a few days, a carer can help to ease your recovery at home.

Along with cooking meals and the household chores, your carer can also support with strengthening exercises, based on guidance from your physiotherapist.

Live-in care provides couples the opportunity to stay together, regardless of their care needs. Doing so can make considerable cost savings too when compared with the price of paying for two beds in a care home.

Sometimes couples struggle to support each other with personal care. For others, daily housekeeping tasks may get difficult if both of you are unwell. Whatever your care needs, there will be a live-in care solution that means you can stay together.

Many of our customers are concerned about experiencing a fall at home, especially when they live alone. It can cause a great deal of anxiety for them and their families.

Falls can cause long-term damage, especially to those who are already quite frail. As Age UK stated, “A fall can destroy confidence, increase isolation and reduce independence.”

With a live-in care worker supporting day and night, families have the reassurance of someone being there at all hours to prevent falls or even raise the alarm if something was to happen.

Call us today to find someone who will fit into yours, or your loved one’s life.
