Know more about Respite care

Respite care is temporary care individuals when their normal carers are not available. Respite care, or carers respite, is typically used as part of recovery after an accident, illness or surgery when regular carers need a break, or additional specialized support is required.

What is Respite Care?

Respite care is temporary care individuals when their normal carers are not available. Respite care, or carers respite, is typically used as part of recovery after an accident, illness or surgery when regular carers need a break, or additional specialized support is required.

This temporary arrangement is offered by trained care workers for numerous care types including assisted living, residential care, dementia care and nursing care. Respite care is also available for elderly people or those that need extra support following an operation or illness. While regular carers take a well-earned break from the demanding duties of being a full-time carer, our team are on hand to help. This type of care is available to keep the recipient at home and without disturbing their routine or taking them from their familiar surroundings. The person you look after will receive expert care at home instead of at a care home.

How Respite care works?

Your chosen respite care worker is there to do all the things you normally do. They can live in your home or attend on a visiting basis your care plan is tailored completely to your needs. An individual support plan is created before any care commences to ensure our care workers meet all of your requirements.

Your care workers daily tasks could involve:

  • Personal care, including dressing, showering, and toileting.
  • Mobility support, helping your loved one move around the house.
  • Administering medication at the correct times.
  • Ongoing companionship and emotional support.
  • Cooking meals and fetching the food shopping.
  • Housekeeping, including washing and drying clothes.
  • Arranging visits out, for a break or to see family and friends.
  • Feeding and caring for pets if you have any.

Types of Respite Care

Respite care ensures that the person you are supporting always has someone there to help them if you’re not around. With our expert care assessments in place, we are able to provide the highest quality respite care breaks to your friends and family.

Day care centres

There are plenty of available options when temporary care is needed. This could mean getting friends and family to help out or it could be residential care, perhaps as a trial run for moving into residential care full time.

Increasingly, it is taking the form of care at home. This could mean a live-in care worker who offers support and companionship 24 hours a day, or a visiting care worker who can support your loved one when needed for just a few hours a week.

Emergency respite care may be necessary if the regular carer becomes sick or is called away from home because of other commitments. This type of care often needs to be arranged at very short notice.
